How easy is it to change your habits?

By | June 23rd, 2011|Changing Habits, Habits, Uncategorized|

A friend of mine sent me this great piece of writing the other day.  I want to share it with you because  I think it really sums up the impact habits have on our experience of life.  See what you think ..... Who Am I? You may know me. I'm your greatest helper;
I'm your heaviest burden. I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.
I am at your command. Half the task you do might as well be turned over to me.
I am able to do them quickly, and I am able to do them
the same every time, if that's what you want. I am easily managed.
All you've got to do is be firm with me. Show me exactly [...]

A laugh a day keeps Stress away…

By | May 30th, 2011|Being in the Now, Habits, Health, Stress/Fear/Anxiety|

We all know that laughing feels great but did you know that it's actually good for the body?  I recently found an article about the benefits of laughter... 'Humor is infectious. The sound of roaring laughter is far more contagious than any cough, sniffle, or sneeze. When laughter is shared, it binds people together and increases happiness and intimacy. In addition to the domino effect of joy and amusement, laughter also triggers healthy physical changes in the body. Humor and laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damaging effects of stress. Best of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use.' Laughter is good for your health Laughter relaxes the [...]

Good Posture can make you Happy!

By | May 1st, 2011|Changing Habits, Confidence, Health, Interview, Uncategorized|

Isn't it good to know that we can do something about the way we feel, simply by changing our posture? Consultant psychologist Ingrid Collins believes there’s an intrinsic link between the body’s position and our ‘psychological posture’.  ‘At a cellular level, when happiness molecules — or endorphins — produced within the brain circulate in the blood, they send a signal to every cell that we’re happy and healthy,’ she says.  ‘If we arrange ourselves physically in a positive manner with the shoulders back, the spine straight and the chest open, it informs the brain to send out more endorphins, triggering a feeling we experience as happiness.’ I talked to  Chiropractor Dr Mike Cassidy Hogg about his thoughts on the matter.  Our [...]

What if the World ended in 2012?

By | March 1st, 2011|Being in the Now, Environment, Peace, Relationships|

If you knew that the World was going to end on December 21st 2012 what difference would that knowledge make to your life right now? It's easy to stumble along imagining that  'day in day out nothing much changes'  and take people and the planet for granted; but what if you were told that you, or someone you loved, was going to die tomorrow?  In that instant everything would change. I can only imagine that if everyone shared the belief that 2012 was the end of civilisation, people would start working together, after all what would be the point of a war, there'd be nothing to fight for? This is not about scaremongering or wanting anyone to panic, but really  to [...]

Don’t let others kill your ideas

By | February 2nd, 2011|Being in the Now, Passion|

Not everyone likes our ideas and whilst it's great to get different viewpoints, if we allow ourselves to be completely influenced by others opinions, we may well squash ourselves in the process.  The smart thing to do is to get feedback from people who can really help you develop your ideas. When you can have fun, allowing your imagination to flow, you never know where it might get you, or what you might come up with! I was sent this film today, which really illustrates beautifully how important it is to not let others dampen your enthusiasm. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3c9YSrNRgY&feature=player_embedded Take Thomas Edison for instance, he never gave up on his idea for a light bulb..... 'One day, Edison was sitting in his [...]

Relationships

By | January 19th, 2011|Listening, Resolutions|

I went to see the film,  'The Kings Speech' yesterday and I was very moved by it. It's about the story of King George VI of Britain, 'his impromptu ascension to the throne and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch become King'.  It's a wonderful film and the relationship between the King and Lionel Logue is a joy to watch. For me Life is all about relationships and the quality of those relationships affect the quality of my life. It's so important to 'invest' in relationships; take time to nourish and nurture them, and 'do the maintenance'. Intimate relationships can be particularly challenging, but if we want them to be extraordinary, we need to be honest, empathetic, loving and [...]
