I’ve just spent 10 days in Greece, exploring Athens and then on to the magical island of Agristi for a yoga retreat.

I’d never been on a yoga retreat before, or taken a holiday abroad for a long time, and it was absolute bliss. I made the decision to put my phone down and not look at social media and Linkedin or answer any emails.

When you’re self employed like I am, it can be challenging to stop and do nothing, but it’s vital we do take regular holidays and this is why –

❤️ Mental and Emotional Well-being: Constant connectivity can lead to burnout, stress, and anxiety. A holiday provides an opportunity to relax and recharge, improving your overall mental and emotional well-being.

💛 Physical Health: Stress and overwork can take a toll on your physical health. A holiday allows you to rest, sleep better, and engage in physical activities that promote health.

💚 Relationships: Spending quality time with loved ones is crucial for maintaining healthy relationships. A holiday allows you to focus on personal connections without the distractions of work or social media.

🧡 Creativity and Inspiration: Stepping away from work and digital distractions can spark creativity and inspiration. It gives your mind the space to think freely and generate new ideas.

💙 Perspective and Reflection: Holidays provide an opportunity for self-reflection and gaining perspective on your life and career. You can assess your goals, values, and priorities.

♥ Work-Life Balance: Achieving a healthy work-life balance is essential for long-term career success and overall life satisfaction. Holidays help you reset this balance.

💜 Reduced Stress: Disconnecting from emails and work-related responsibilities reduces the stress associated with being constantly on call and can lead to better stress management.

❤️ Increased Productivity: Paradoxically, taking a break can boost productivity. When you return to work after a refreshing holiday, you’re likely to be more focused and efficient.

💛 Digital Detox: Constantly checking social media and emails can lead to information overload and addiction-like behaviours. A holiday offers a valuable digital detox opportunity.

💚 Cultural and Personal Growth: Traveling or exploring new activities during a holiday can broaden your horizons and contribute to personal growth.

🧡 Preventing Burnout: Regular breaks help prevent burnout, which can have serious consequences for your career and health.

💙 Quality of Life: Ultimately, taking a holiday and disconnecting from digital distractions contributes to a higher quality of life. It allows you to enjoy the present moment and make lasting memories.

So, with that in mind, I’m going to be booking in another holiday soon!

When did you last take a holiday? Where was it? Did you have a digital detox?
